ABS Wavesight Nautical Systems (NS) is a marine ERP for fleet and crew management from ABS Wavesight, a maritime SaaS company built on the foundation of the ABS classification society. Shipowners and managers use it ashore and on board through interoperable modules: NS Maintenance Manager for planned maintenance and certificate tracking, NS Purchasing Manager for requisitions, quotations, purchase orders and spares inventory by vessel and warehouse, plus drydock, HSQE, crew, document and voyage modules. Through Makini's Unified API, where the connection exposes them, an inventory optimization product reads stock for critical spares and consumables, compares it with open purchase orders, and flags parts at risk. A procurement analytics tool follows purchase requisitions through requests for quotation, purchase orders, receipts and invoices to measure lead times by vendor. OEM suppliers can also see which of their parts each fleet orders. An NS user signs in through Makini Link, embedded in the vendor's product or sent as a magic link, so credentials never pass through the vendor's application. Data then syncs on an interval set by the Makini plan, not in real time. NS enforces company-specific approval controls, so agree on the connecting user's access with the customer. NS apps on board can work offline and sync to the onboard server, so a requisition raised at sea may reach the connection only after ship-to-shore data exchange. If the shore database runs on the owner's servers, IT can allow Makini's fixed IPs or set up a VPN.

Yes, ABS Nautical Systems is now sold as ABS Wavesight Nautical Systems (NS). In November 2022 ABS launched ABS Wavesight, a maritime software company that combined Nautical Systems with My Digital Fleet, platforms then installed on more than 5,000 vessels. Older documents may also say NS5, the former name of the installed suite now called NS Enterprise.
NS Enterprise is the installed ABS Nautical Systems suite, renamed from NS5 in 2016. NS-as-a-Service runs it on Microsoft Azure, with ABS responsible for software, hardware and disaster recovery. NS Web, released in September 2024, adds browser and mobile modules, starting with Crew and Payroll Manager and HSQE and Vetting Manager, that work alongside existing Enterprise modules.
ABS NS Purchasing Manager runs a fully traceable purchasing process and enforces each company's own approval controls. Its e-procurement features import and export RFQs and handle supplier PO acknowledgements or rejections, alongside electronic invoicing and catalog management. Critical spares and consumables are tracked by vessel and warehouse, and replenishment is automated against the client's policy levels.
ABS Wavesight's public site does not describe an open API for Nautical Systems; instead it offers services that implement interfaces between NS and other purchasing, inventory, maintenance and accounting tools. With Makini, your product reads one Unified API and Makini maintains the NS connector. If the NS database runs on the owner's servers, IT can allowlist Makini's fixed IP addresses or set up a VPN.
Makini's ABS Nautical Systems page lists purchase requisitions, requests for quotation, purchase orders, receipts, invoices, stock, vendors, locations, sites, accounts and currencies, mapped to its unified models where the connection exposes them. Most of these come from NS Purchasing Manager. Maintenance Manager tasks and certificates are not on that list, so ask Makini about them before planning maintenance features.
Start with read-only access to ABS Nautical Systems before creating any orders. NS already replenishes stock against the customer's policy levels and often exchanges data with accounting or third-party purchasing systems, so an order raised from outside can duplicate demand or skip an approval step. Enable writes only where the connection permits them, agree which system owns each document, and test on one vessel.
