Makini is SOC 2 Type 2 compliant and undergoes penetration testing twice annually. We use industry-standard encryption protocols including TLS 1.2+ for data in transit and AES-256 for data at rest. Customer credentials are encrypted using secure key management practices. Our infrastructure follows security best practices including network segmentation, access controls, and regular security audits. For highly regulated industries or customers with strict compliance requirements, we offer self-hosted deployment options that keep all data within your infrastructure. We've successfully met security requirements for enterprises including financial institutions and government contractors.
The integration role must have the following essential permissions:
• Log in using OAuth 2.0 Access Tokens (Full level)
• REST Web Services (Full level)
Additionally, you should add specific permissions based on your integration needs, such as permissions for Transactions, Lists, Reports, or Custom Records.
Connecting to any system through Makini is straightforward. You select the product you want to connect to, log in with your credentials, and receive an API token. The process takes just a few clicks and works consistently across all 2,000+ supported systems. For most systems (85-90% of cases), you only need the instance URL, username, and password. Some systems may require additional steps like API token generation, and we provide detailed authentication guides for these cases. The connection experience is designed to be simple enough that non-technical users can complete it without IT support.
Makini maintains API stability and provides advance notice of breaking changes. The current API version is v1. When we introduce breaking changes, we release a new API version while maintaining the previous version for a transition period (typically 12 months minimum). Non-breaking changes (like adding new fields or endpoints) are introduced into the current version without requiring updates. We announce upcoming version changes through multiple channels: email notifications, dashboard announcements, and release notes. API responses include version information in headers. We recommend specifying the API version explicitly in your requests to ensure consistent behavior. During version transitions, we provide migration guides and support for updating integrations.
