Plex MES is the manufacturing execution component of Plex Smart Manufacturing Platform, supporting production tracking, quality, traceability, and OEE for discrete and process manufacturers.

Plex MES is the manufacturing execution layer of the Plex Smart Manufacturing Platform from Plex, by Rockwell Automation, which completed the acquisition in 2021; Plex ERP is the business layer on the same cloud platform. MES covers Production Management, Operator Control Panels, Closed-Loop Quality Management from control plans, Production Finite Scheduling and real time Inventory Management with traceability, while ERP handles orders, purchasing and finance. Both are designed to work as one system.
Production records such as jobs, work center output and the inputs to OEE, control plan checks and quality results, scrap and downtime entries, container and lot traceability, and inventory movements are the Plex MES data an analytics product normally needs. Makini exposes Plex MES through its unified models, for example production orders, assets, stock items, BOMs and routings, where the connection exposes them, so your product reads one schema instead of Plex's native tables.
The customer connects Plex MES through Makini Link, embedded in your product or sent as a magic link, using access a Plex administrator sets up, and those credentials never pass through your application. Plex separates data by PCN, the number that identifies each plant or company in a Plex tenant, so agree with the customer which PCNs the connection should cover. Plex also offers a test environment (test.cloud.plex.com) for validating a connection before production.
No, Makini syncs Plex MES on a plan based interval, every 6 hours on the trial, up to every 2 hours on Grow and up to every 15 minutes on Enterprise, so it suits analytics, planning and reporting rather than machine level control. Plex processes billions of transactions a day and the Operator Control Panel remains the live interface; your product reads the synced picture and should show the last sync time.
Start with reading Plex MES, which is the system of record for production, quality and traceability; a wrong inventory or production transaction flows straight into Plex ERP, so writes should stay within what the connection and the connecting Plex user's permissions allow, with someone in the plant confirming the change. Makini supports writes to core records where the connection permits, but begin with read only analytics and add specific write cases one at a time.
A Plex MES administrator should decide which PCNs the vendor may see, create a dedicated Plex user or API access with only the roles the agreed operations need, and start in the Plex test environment before switching to production. Plex MES is cloud hosted, so no firewall change is normally required. Makini lists Plex MES as a Tier III platform in its connection credit model, which affects how the vendor's plan is consumed.
