Hubstaff is a time tracking and workforce management platform, and its field offering, Hubstaff Field, serves construction crews, service teams and mobile technicians. Workers track time with GPS in the mobile apps, and geofenced job sites clock them in and out automatically. Owners and managers create work orders with a client, address, instructions, assignees and dates, and each one appears as a shift under Schedules. Tracked time flows into timesheets, project budgets, client invoices and team payments.
Where a connection exposes these records, the Hubstaff Field Service MCP answers questions that would otherwise take several reports. An operations manager asks which work orders this week are late or missed and who was assigned. A project manager compares hours tracked at one job site with the project budget. A payroll lead checks which timesheets are still unapproved before a pay period closes. The agent can also summarize job site visits for one client before invoicing.
You sign in to your Hubstaff organization through Makini Link, then paste the MCP endpoint Makini issues into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another MCP client, and get_connection_details shows which objects and fields that connection offers. Hubstaff limits data by role: owners and organization managers see the organization, project managers and team leads their own projects or teams, and users only their own time, so pick a role that covers the right teams. Work orders need a Team plan or higher and have no dedicated endpoint in Hubstaff's public API, so confirm them in get_connection_details.

Yes: Hubstaff runs its own official MCP server, and Makini offers a Hubstaff Field Service MCP. Hubstaff's server is read-only, open to owners and managers of active organizations, and returns organizations, members, projects, tasks and time and activity data. Makini's puts Hubstaff behind one endpoint with more than 2,000 other industrial products, so an agent can combine hours with data from other systems.
Hubstaff shows a work order job as Unscheduled when it has no dates, Scheduled when it is dated in the future, Late when assignees did not arrive on time, and Missed when nobody worked it. Jobs can repeat weekly, monthly or on a custom cycle. Only organization owners and managers can change work order statuses, and the feature needs a Team plan or higher.
Hubstaff stores each job site visit with the user, job site, enter and exit times, last seen time and a status. The API has separate endpoints for visits triggered by geofences and for passive location detections without a geofence trigger. Where the connection exposes visits, an agent can compare them with attendance shifts to show who arrived late, left early or never reached a site.
A Hubstaff timesheet moves through open, submitted, approved and denied, and denying one requires a denial reason. Approving a period with pending manual time requests needs explicit confirmation that those requests will be denied, and pending time off requests must be acknowledged. An agent can flag such timesheets and summarize hours per project, while the approve and deny decisions stay with the manager.
Yes, Hubstaff keeps tracking offline and stores time, activity levels and mobile GPS coordinates on the device, with no time limit on offline tracking. The data uploads in the background once the device reconnects, and Hubstaff de-duplicates interrupted syncs. Until then, an agent asking about today's hours or job site visits may report less time than crews worked, so treat same-day totals as provisional.
The Makini connection acts with the role of the Hubstaff member whose access it uses, because Hubstaff API credentials authenticate as that member with their current organization role. An owner, manager or Manage-IT member can create organization access tokens set to never expire or to expire after 30, 60 or 90 days. Pick a member who sees exactly the teams and projects the agent needs.
Only if your connection supports it, since Hubstaff's public API v2 has no work order endpoint and only owners and managers can change work order statuses. Makini's MCP tool list includes create_work_order, but a write works only if your Hubstaff connection exposes it and the member's role allows it. Start with read access and let the agent draft schedules or notes for a manager.
The Hubstaff API v2 covers organizations, members, teams, projects, tasks, clients, job sites and job site visits, attendance schedules and shifts, time entries, activities, timesheets, budgets, client invoices, team payments, time off requests, tool usages and webhooks. Work orders have no resource of their own in the API reference. Call get_connection_details to see which of these objects your Makini connection exposes.
