Integrity Management System (IMS) is an asset integrity suite for inspection and maintenance decisions in oil and gas, chemicals and mining. It draws on more than 20 years of Shell experience; Cenosco bought the intellectual property rights from Shell in December 2023 and now sells it as the IMS software suite. IMS PEI covers pressure equipment with risk-based inspection to API 580/581, corrosion rates and Integrity Operating Windows. IMS PLSS covers pipelines and subsea systems, with in-line inspection data, anomalies and fitness-for-service calculations. Further modules handle reliability centered maintenance, safety instrumented systems, flange connections and civil structures.
Where a connection exposes these records, the IMS MCP answers questions integrity teams would otherwise assemble by hand. An engineer asks which pressure equipment has an inspection due before the next turnaround, by risk ranking. A pipeline engineer has the agent summarise open anomalies on one line from the latest in-line inspection run. A reliability lead checks which inspection recommendations have no work order in SAP or Maximo, and the agent can draft a work request for a planner to review.
You connect your IMS environment through Makini Link, then paste the MCP endpoint Makini issues into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another MCP client, and get_connection_details shows which objects and fields that connection offers. IMS uses role-based access, so limit the account to the modules the job needs. IMS runs in shared or dedicated cloud or on-premises; for on-premises, IT can allow Makini's fixed IPs in the firewall or set up a VPN.

Cenosco owns IMS: it bought the intellectual property rights to the Integrity Management System from Shell in December 2023 and now sells it as the IMS software suite. The software draws on more than 20 years of Shell experience. User documentation is published as the IMS Handbook at ims-handbook.cenosco.com, with separate versions such as v4.9.
Yes, Makini provides an MCP server for the Integrity Management System (IMS): you sign in through Makini Link with your existing IMS credentials, receive a unique MCP endpoint and add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another MCP client. Each connection has its own scoped, revocable token, and every call is logged. Run get_connection_details first to see which IMS objects and fields are exposed.
In IMS PEI, an Equipment Condition History (ECH) records the results of an inspection, while a Schedule defines when the next inspection is due. Inspectors credit the Schedule in the ECH, and recurring Schedules then generate a new due date. An ECH moves through approval statuses such as Writer Approved, Level 1 Approved and Final Approved, depending on the approver's level.
IMS4Field replaced IMS Offline: Cenosco ended IMS Offline support in March 2024 and removed the app from the app stores in July 2024. IMS4Field uses the same database as IMS and records field results in ECHs with Dynamic Forms Checklists. In its default Local Mode, data stays on the device until a network connection is available, so an agent sees it only after sync.
In IMS PLSS, a Finding is an issue record tied to one ECH, raised by marking an Observation, while an Anomaly tracks a Finding over time across several Schedules and ECHs. Only Anomalies carry a description, an assessment and approved revision numbers, and they are closed once resolved. An Anomaly should always be created from the ECH, which keeps the inspection evidence traceable.
An AI agent should not approve inspection results in IMS, even if the connection allows writes. Approval in IMS is personal, since each user holds an Approval Level of 0, 1 or 2 per unit, and a Level 1 Approved ECH cannot be modified, with its approver recorded as the responsible inspector. Let the agent prepare summaries for review meetings and leave approval to inspectors.
The PEI VIEWER role fits, since in IMS it grants read-only access to the PEI module. Roles such as INSP TECH, RBI or INSP GENERAL add editing rights, and when an account holds several roles the highest one applies, so do not reuse an engineer's account. Create a dedicated account for the connection and assign its role in Security Settings.
Yes, IMS has a Developer Portal at your instance's /developer address with GET, POST, PATCH and DELETE APIs, and the APIs available depend on the site-specific IMS implementation. Requests use OAuth 2.0 tokens from Cenosco's CenAuth service that expire after one hour, and credentials come from Cenosco Customer Support. An MCP agent does not call these APIs itself; Makini's connector handles the IMS side.
