Connecting to any system through Makini is straightforward. You select the product you want to connect to, log in with your credentials, and receive an API token. The process takes just a few clicks and works consistently across all 2,000+ supported systems. For most systems (85-90% of cases), you only need the instance URL, username, and password. Some systems may require additional steps like API token generation, and we provide detailed authentication guides for these cases. The connection experience is designed to be simple enough that non-technical users can complete it without IT support.
Yes, you can trigger syncs manually through both the API and the Makini dashboard. The API provides endpoints to initiate syncs for specific entities (purchase orders, work orders, etc.) on a given connection. Manual syncs are useful when you need immediate data updates outside the regular schedule, when onboarding new customers, or when recovering from sync failures. Manual syncs follow the same incremental logic as scheduled syncs, retrieving only changed records since the last successful sync. You can also trigger full re-syncs that ignore the last sync timestamp and retrieve all records within the configured historical period.
Makini monitors connection health continuously and provides multiple ways to detect reauthorization needs. The connection status endpoint returns the current state including whether reauthorization is required. Makini sends webhooks when connections enter a state requiring reauthorization, allowing proactive notification. API requests to a connection requiring reauthorization return specific error codes prompting reconnection. The Makini dashboard displays connection status across all customers. Best practice is to implement webhook listeners for connection status changes and proactively notify customers when reauthorization is needed, rather than waiting for operations to fail. Include clear instructions on how to reconnect in your notification.
The integration role must have the following essential permissions:
• Log in using OAuth 2.0 Access Tokens (Full level)
• REST Web Services (Full level)
Additionally, you should add specific permissions based on your integration needs, such as permissions for Transactions, Lists, Reports, or Custom Records.
